Tekin Salimi is a Canadian venture capitalist and lawyer who is the founder of dao5, an experimental cryptocurrency investment fund.[1] He is also a former general partner at Polychain Capital.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Salimi was born in Turkey, but when he was a young child, his family relocated to Toronto, Canada. He holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto.[3]

Business career[edit]

He started his career as a corporate lawyer at Torys LLP.[4] He began working with Polychain Capital in 2018 and remained there till 2022.[1]

In 2022, he founded dao5, a $125 million Web3 venture fund with the intention of turning it into a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) by 2025.[5][6] Upon conversion, dao5 tokens will be minted and issued to the fund's advisory board, investment team, and founders of portfolio companies.[7][8] Salimi suggests that DAOs can revolutionize the way we work, collaborate, and govern in the future.

Dao5's advisory board include Emin Gün Sirer, Ben Fisch, professor of computer science at Yale University, and Ivan Soto-Wright, founder of Moonpay.[9][10]

Salimi supports Polkadot as a blockchain platform that connects private and consortium chains, public and permissionless networks, and other combinations that have not yet been created in a single, interoperable system.[11]

He is also acting as an advisor and board observer for the Blockchain Association, a prominent lobbying organization that advocates for policy interests on behalf of the blockchain industry in the United States.[12]
