Tema Secondary School also referred to as Tema Senior High School and TEMASCO, is a public senior high school located in Tema in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is the oldest school in the Tema metropolis and located in Tema Community 5.[1] [2]
Brief History[edit]
With 52 students, the school was established and commissioned on 22nd September 1961 by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Mr F. K. Buah, its first headmaster, was a historian, writer, educationist and former politician. His vision for the school was to model it to be a well endowed center of excellence, befitting the status of the Port city of Tema. In line with the plan, subjects taught included Accounts, Arts, Business Studies, Civics, Commerce, Ghanaian Languages, Home Science, Latin, Logic, Shorthand/Typing and Science. By the end of the first month, the student population increased to 105 with three (3) Form 1 classes (A, B and C). In the Advanced Level, students were taught English, Economics, Geography, History and Logic for the Arts and Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Pure and Applied Mathematics for the Sciences. In 1968, the first batch of students from the Sixth Form Level were turned out. [3] The motto of the school is "Nil Nisi Optima", a Latin expression which means “Nothing but the Best”. The school is currently being headed by Emmanuel Kobina Baidoo.[4][5] The anthem of the school is titled, "God save TEMASCO, make this school our own".
