The Terrorism Research Initiative (TRI) is a large research consortium in the field of terrorism studies, based in Vienna, Austria.
Founded in 2007, the organisation's membership includes 16 research institutions and over 120 individual scholars, hailing from over 30 countries as of 2021[update] and covering a range of disciplines. Its directors are Alex P. Schmid, Edwin Bakker and Robert Wesley, who is also President of TRI.[1]
Although its headquarters are located in Vienna, Austria, it is academically affiliated with the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) of Leiden University’s Campus The Hague, in The Hague, Netherlands. The president, Robert Wesley, is based in Vienna, and is also CEO of KIVU Technologies.[2]
The institute produces the peer-reviewed academic journal entitled Perspectives on Terrorism.[1] Wesley was founding editor of the journal.[3]
