Trevor Donnelly (born May 15, 1987),[1][2] known professionally as Tha Rift, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and influencer. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio.[3][4][5][6] He served three years in the Navy[1] and once discharged, he moved to Minneapolis with his brother[7] and pursued his music career.[3]

He was signed to Rostrum Records in 2017 alongside J Plaza and Daddy Dinero under the name FREEWIFI.[5][7][8] They received widespread recognition after the release of their first single, “Ego”.[3][4][7][9] Together, they performed at Soundset 2017 in Minnesota.[9] Pigeons and Planes reviewed their song  “Salsa”.[10] Tha Rift left the group in 2018 and continued work on his own.[1][7] He has worked with many artists and producers including, Future, King Chip, Allan Kingdom DJ FU of Ear Drummers; Grammy award-winning producer, Rahki who produced Kendrick’s “i”; Lil Xan, $teven Cannon; AD; Futuristic; Young Sam; AKT Aktion; and Angelo Bombay.[3]

He went viral in 2020 after releasing “Can You Hear Us Now,” a song about racial and social injustice after the murder of George Floyd and the protests that arose.[1] He flew out to Minneapolis to protest and was almost hit by the Semi that drove into protestors on I35W.[1] In the video, he showed footage of the protests and riots, and he included the link to Minnesota Freedom Fund and encouraged viewers to donate.[1]

In June 2021, LA weekly recognized him as the top artist you should be following on Instagram.[11] His newest track "Fiji Water," with fellow veteran Kash Young was released on September 17.[5]
