ThePRP (formerly an initialism for Pimp Rock Palace)[1] is a website covering heavy metal, hardcore music and hard rock news, as well as album and music DVD reviews.[2] Users can read and post comments on the site's news articles and reviews.

History

ThePRP was founded in June 1999 by wookubus (in British Columbia), Brian Webb (in London) and Pedro Einloft (in Brazil).[1] The site's three founders had never met in person, but had become acquainted with each other through trading MP3s online.[1] The site quickly gained a following for its coverage of nu metal acts, including Swift and Breach of Trust.[1][3] ThePRP largely operated as a non-profit site, as any revenues the site made through advertising were swallowed up by its hosting costs.[1][4] ThePRP was widely praised for the site's independent ethics and high-quality journalism, and the website's name has appeared in the liner notes of releases by Nothingface, Taproot, Slaves on Dope , (hed)p.e., Dog Fashion Disco and Alien Ant Farm, among others.[1][4]

On April 1, 2004, ThePRP's website was temporarily changed to "Previously Ridden Ponies" as an April Fools' Day joke.[5]

After two failed attempts to create a new design for the site, ThePRP underwent its first major redesign since 1999 on November 14, 2009.[6][7] In 2014, the website's comment section underwent a redesign, migrating from WordPress to Disqus.[8] On January 24, 2015, the site underwent another redesign.[9]
