theSpaceUK is a live events producer and venue operator at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, specialising in theatre and performance art.

History[edit]

The team behind theSpaceUK first formed in 1995 to transform the church hall at Old Saint Paul's Church, in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, into a venue for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, known as Venue 45[1]. At the time there were less than 70 venues operating at the Fringe [2]

In 2008, the operation expanded into the nearby Radisson Hotel with the creation of what later became known as theSpace on the Mile.

By 2009, the Fringe had substantially expanded, and the team's ambitions had increased. theSpaceUK was incorporated (as Venue 45 Limited) in 2009 to support the scaling of the operation to include five new theatre spaces at a multi-space complex at the Royal College of Surgeons.[3]

Over the subsequent years, further theatres were added and the company now operate 18 spaces at the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2016, theSpaceUK was named as one of the ten key venues of the Fringe by The Scotsman [4]
