The Amazing Race 33 is the upcoming thirty-third installment of the American reality television show The Amazing Race. It will feature eleven teams of two in a race around the world for a US$1 million grand prize.
Production and filming[edit]
Development[edit]
In January 2020 during the winter press tour for the Television Critics Association in Pasadena, California, Amazing Race co-creators and executive producers Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri, who were promoting their new National Geographic show Race to the Center of the Earth, confirmed to Andy Dehnart of reality blurred that they would be filming a thirty-third season of The Amazing Race later in the year.[3] Production of the season initially began on February 22, 2020, after host Phil Keoghan finished filming Tough as Nails.[4] On February 28, filming was suspended mid-season for the first time in the show's history after three episodes were completed with the contestants and production crew sent home as a precaution due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic.[2] The season's suspension occurred due to plans to travel towards Northern Italy, which had a worsening outbreak after filming started.[5]
Casting[edit]
Casting for the season started in late September 2019,[6][7] and casting finals occurred during the end of December 2019.[8][9]
The initial cast includes Love Island season 1 couple Raymond "Ray" Gantt and Caroline "Caro" Viehweg.[10]
