The Big Four (stylized as The Big 4) is an upcoming Indonesian action comedy film produced, co-written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto. The film features an ensemble cast starring Abimana Aryasatya, Putri Marino, Arie Kriting, Lutesha, and Kristo Immanuel.

A by-the-book detective investigates the death of her father and follows a clue to a remote tropical island, only to find out his true identity as a leader of a group of assassins. Now hunted by his enemies, she has to team up with the crooks her father had trained – four retired, down-on-their-luck assassins itching to get back in the game.[4]

Im June 2021, Timo Tjahjanto teased he was in the middle of writing a screenplay, entitled The Big Four, with Johanna Watimena.[5] In September 2021, Netflix officially announced the film as part of their ongoing collaboration with Tjahjanto following The Night Comes for Us (2018), with him attached as director.[6] On Tjahjanto's social media, he revealed the film's logo and stated it will be an "action comedy", a genre he has never done before.[7][8] In November 2021, he announced the film had begun shooting with cinematographer Batara Goempar.[2] In February 2022, Tjahanto announced that production on the film had completed, as well as revealing that he also serves as a producer.[9]

In September 2022, Abimana Aryasatya, Putri Marino, Arie Kriting, Lutesha, and Kristo Immanuel were announced to be part of the cast.[10]

The Big Four is released worldwide via streaming on Netflix on December 15, 2022.[6][11]

Critical response[edit]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 86% of 7 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.9/10.[1]
