General Information[edit]

The Di Salvo Engineering Group (TDEG), founded in 1973 by Richard S. Di Salvo, is a professional structural engineering corporation that provides clients with consulting engineering services. [1] It received the status of "Incorporated" in 1995, [1] under the State of Connecticut, and has remained a corporation since then. The firm is based in Connecticut, [2] but offers services throughout the Northeast. In 2018, the group (also known as TDEG) will open a new headquarters in Denver, Colorado as well [3] under the supervision of Steve Lehigh, P.E. (Professional Engineer).

Although Richard "Dick" Di Salvo passed away in 1998,[4] the firm continued to grow. Currently, TDEG has three Principals: Bruce D. Richardson, Kenneth D. Jones, and Trevor B. Hill. [2] All three are licensed, and can be found in the Official Connecticut License Directory under "Professional Engineer." [5] Recently, The Ridgefield Press reported that two new recent graduates, Jason Henion and Christian Briggs, also joined the Di Salvo Engineering group as structural engineering staff.[6]

Featured Projects[edit]

The Di Salvo Engineering Group has gained press coverage for many projects over the years. Some of their recent news-worthy jobs are listed below:

Healthcare Projects[edit]

Burke Hospital:[7] TDEG provided on-call services for this project. Burke Hospital in White Plains needed renovations and upgraded facilities in order to best serve its patients and their families. Burke’s new addition, the Marsal Caregiver Center, offers a place that cares for the caregivers. [8] While the sick patients are being treated in the hospital, the new Caregiver Center is designed to be a space for their loved ones.

Healthquest Medical Mall: [9] This adaptive reuse project involves the conversion of an anchor department store in an existing shopping mall into a healthcare facility in an underserved area. The space is located in close proximity to residential areas that are in need of a local place to seek medical help; this project will provide them with that necessity. [10]

Mount Sinai: [11] [12] [13] This renowned group of New York City hospitals recently announced the opening of a new, "state-of-the-art" urgent care center at their Union Square location. The center is full-service, including a separate pediatric care unit. This project was a part of the hospital’s transformation initiative to improve all medical services south of 34th Street. TDEG is working with Mount Sinai to fulfill this mission, which also includes the design of a new Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital. The plans for construction of this center involve an Emergency Department with advanced facilities, a remodeled ambulatory unit, expanded outpatient care facilities, and over 35 modernized operating and procedure rooms.

Education Projects[edit]

Warren Harding High School:[14]This new Bridgeport, CT school is expected to be completed in 2018. The old Warren Harding school was outdated in technology, ventilation, and space, so the City of Bridgeport commissioned this facility, which will accommodate many more students in a more modern environment. The new building will be four stories, and will have more advanced facilities such as virtual and graphic laboratories. TDEG worked with Antinozzi Associates[15] for this project. [16]

Eagle Hill School Community Room: [17] TDEG was partnered with KG&D Architects [18] for the design of this award-winning (see below) community room in Greenwich, CT. Eagle Hill School is a private school for children aged 5-15 who have "language-based learning difficulties." The room has enough space to accommodate the entire school's staff and student body, and serves as a gathering place, theater, and auditorium.

Taconic Hills Central School: Located in Craryville, NY (upstate NY) and part of the Taconic Hills Central School District, this school won multiple awards for its design, including The 2000 Build New York Award from General Building Contractors of New York State [19]. TDEG worked with [20] Rhinebeck Architecture and Planning for this project. The school is pre-K through twelfth grade, and now has many such amenities as its own aquatic and fitness center, with an indoor pool and many exercise machines, a 1,000-seat performing arts center with an outdoor amphitheater, [21]two media centers, three gymnasiums, and more. [22] The property is 350,000 square feet. [22]

Rippowam Cisqua School:[23]This Bedford, NY private school underwent renovations with the help of TDEG and KG&D Architects. [24] The school now has more and upgraded classrooms, a new dining hall "infused with natural light" [23], outdoor eating areas, an "Innovation Center," a new main Centennial entry and lobby, an addition of a contemporary media center and library, two modern art studios, an outdoor courtyard, an amphitheater, and more. The school has been remodeled to look ultra-modern with large glass windows, flexible seating options, and many sources of natural and non-fluorescent light. [25] [26] [27]
