"The Dustbowl Revival" is a Venice, California-based Americana and Soul band with eight full-time members.[1] The band incorporates New Orleans funk, bluegrass, soul, pre-war blues, and overall Americana music into their recordings and shows, which they have become well known for worldwide and at home, where LA Weekly named them “Best Live Band in LA”.[2]
Background Info
The band has toured around the world, played festivals like Outside Lands, Green River Festival and Live Oak, and toured opening for Rebirth Brass Band, Lake Street Dive, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Trombone Shorty.
2010-Present
After placing several songs on ABC and Fox and having tunes featured in independent films like "Made In China" (winner of SXSW), 2010 was highlighted in The Dustbowl Revival’s career by getting awarded "Americana Song Of The Year" by Independent Music Awards (Tom Waits Judging) for "Dan's Jam"[3] from their first album recorded the same year – “You Can't Go Back To The Garden Of Eden.”
In 2011, the EP “Holy Ghost Station” was recorded on one-inch reel to reel tape at Red Rockets Glare LA[4]
In 2013 Dustbowl released the third album "Carry Me Home," which is a celebration of American songcraft recorded by over 25 members of The Dustbowl Revival consortium of folk, jazz, bluegrass and swing music makers. Recorded at Crown City Studios, Pasadena.[5]
In recent years the band has opened for bands as diverse as Lake Street Dive, Trombone Shorty and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, touring China as a guest of the state department and headlining festivals like Delfest, Floydfest, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and recently Bergenfest (Norway) and Tonderfest (Denmark).
In 2015 the band released their first live album, “With A Lampshade On,” recorded at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall and LA's famed Troubadour. Along with this came a video with the former star of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Mary Poppins" on “Never Had To Go.”[6][7] In 2017, their video and song was featured in the HBO documentary, "If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast".[8]
In 2016, The Dustbowl Revival released two new tracks, “Busted” with “Only One” as a 45 via Signature Sounds. Produced by Grammy award-winner and Flogging Molly co-founder Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys), the new sounds signal a striking departure from their fun-loving, raucous old-time past and has the band mixing their unique eight-piece instrumentation into realms of hard soul, funk and emotional, introspective folk.[9][10]
Present: On June 16th, 2017, their self-titled album became their fourth studio album release, including single "Honey I Love You" feat. Grammy award-winner Keb' Mo' on Signature Sounds.[11][12] The band is selling out esteemed roots venues across the U.S. like The Hamilton in DC[13], The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI[14], multiple nights at SPACE in Chicago, IL[15], and playing esteemed venues on their album release tour such as headlining The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA[16] and Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles.[17] They have over 115 shows in the books for 2017 throughout the U.S. and Europe.[18] Festivals they play at in 2017 include notable performers such as Mavis Staples[19], The Lone Bellow, Joss Stone[20], Pokey LaFarge[21], St. Paul and the Broken Bones[22], Old Crow Medicine Show[23], and The Infamous Stringdusters[24]
