"The Earth, The Sun, The Rain" is an R&B and Pop song performed by Color Me Badd, and is the lead single from their third album titled "Now & Forever". It is about a lover bringing the protagonist out of his depression, and how he will love her so hard for everything they have done, using the Earth, Sun, and Rain for analogy references.

The group went on a 2-and-a-half year break, while their label Giant Records went through a reshuffling, and became Revolution Records. After the underperformance of their last album, their manager Steve Wax, as well as label head Irving Azoff worked closely to select material for the group for the next album, meaning that they wrote less material themselves[1]. This would be the first single where they have no writing credits on.

While not as successful as some of their earlier singles, the single did perform better than the singles from their last album, peaking at #21 on June 1st, 1996, and having enough longevity on the charts and radio to place in the 1996 Year-End charts, charting for 22 weeks. It would be the group's last hit song, and it wouldn't drum up interest for album sales.

Critical reception[edit]

Larry Flick from Billboard commented, "Before there was an army of harmonious male quartets vying for radio time, there was Color Me Badd. The act previews its third album, "Now And Forever" with a ballad that coasts with finger-snapping rhythm and retro-pop melodic influence. A little on the formulaic side, the performance is sweet and full of earnest energy. Give it a fair shot."[2]
