The Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc "Edelweiss" is a non-profit, apolitical non-governmental organization, aiming to create fair opportunities for talented and disadvantaged people in the Republic of Moldova.

The mission of the Foundation[edit]

The Foundation has the mission to contribute to the development of society by elaborating and implementing of some projects in the cultural, educational and social fields.[1]

History[edit]

The "Edelweiss" Foundation was registered on July 6, 2010[2] by businessman Vlad Plahotniuc. Since then, the foundation's activity being as a "nonprofit and apolitical" has been closely linked to his name. On July 13, 2016, the organization has changed its name, becoming "The Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc "Edelweiss "". With the change of name, the institution launched several projects and social campaigns.[3][4]

Social[edit]

The Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc "Edelweiss" has implemented a large number of social projects over the years, many of them being carried out in children's homes and old-age homes. These activities support disadvantaged groups.[5]

The "Village of the Future" project[edit]

The National Project "Village of the Future" was initiated in September 2016 in the village of Grozeşti, Nisporeni district, having the main objective of modernizing and developing rural localities in the Republic of Moldova.[6][7][8]

In the period of March 3 - April 1, 2017, the mayors of the localities in the country could send at the Foundation's headquarters one or more projects to modernize their localities. The projects could target different areas, such as infrastructure, education, environment, tourism, sports, culture, and should to be supported by villagers by signatures. Following this competition, 5 winning projects have been designated.[9][10][11]

The project "Edelweiss Parks"[edit]

The Project ”Edelweiss Parks” was launched on August 4, 2016 and is part of the program by which the Foundation supports families and community development in the Republic of Moldova, with the objective of arranging of 40 playgrounds for children in several Moldovan localities, including in Chișinău. In the 4 months since the inauguration of the Project ”Edelweiss Parks”, the Foundation has set up several modern and safe children's playgrounds in several localities in the country, including six in Chișinău, one of which is tailored to the special needs of children with disabilities.[12][13][14][15][16][17]

Culture[edit]

To contribute to the development of the cultural society in the Republic of Moldova, the Foundation aims to support a wide range of cultural activities: literature, theater, music, plastic arts, architecture, cinema, radio and television, photographic art, design, circus, folk art and other.[18]

Education[edit]

The Foundation aims to support education in all its forms through the implementation of several projects.[19]

Scholarships for 100 young people[edit]

The national contest "100 Scholarships for Young People", dedicated to the 12th grade pupils from the Republic of Moldova, was launched on June 5, 2017, and aims to stimulate pupils with good results in learning by offering a monthly scholarship to each winner during the study year 2017-2018 (from September 2017 to May 2018 inclusive).[20][21]

The most beloved of the teachers[edit]

This is a competition launched on September 5, 2017, for teachers, working in lyceum and gymnasiums in the Republic of Moldova. It consists of creating by pupils a 3-minute clip containing an impressive message about and for the much-loved teacher.[22][23][24]

The School of Edelweiss Ambassadors[edit]

In the spring of 2016, a social and educational campaign was launched for young people from the Republic of Moldova. The School of Edelweiss Ambassadors is for the 9th grade youth, encouraging them to continue their studies and make the first choices about their professional career, to build a career and make a living. They benefit from free courses at the Edelweiss Ambassadors School, including: foreign language courses, practical concepts in IT, communication courses, psychology. There are also organized studio tours in different companies so students can see with their eyes what is involved in practicing a certain profession.[25][26]

Respect for Seniors[edit]

In May 2017, the Foundation, in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy and the Education Association ”Neoumanist”, launched a social campaign called ”Respect for Seniors”. This project provides home health care, food package delivery and clean-up services for the elderly.[27][28]

Revive Moldova/The Mobile Pediatric Cabinet[edit]

Another project of The Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc "Edelweiss" in partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova is the ”Mobile Pediatric Cabinet”, with the help of which thousands of children from the Moldovan villages were consulted free of charge. The national campaign for the protection of children's health started on April 20, 2016 and during 8 months, a team of pediatricians, ultrasound specialists and a nurse arrived in the villages of the Republic of Moldova, where they offered free counseling to children. The Mobile Pediatric Cabinet "Revive Moldova" is equipped with modern appliances, including an ultrasonographic device useful for diagnosing of the internal organ disorders. Doctors and nurses forming the team are ready to provide complete comprehensive consultations and prescribe the necessary treatments in each case.[29]

In the 2017 edition, the "The Mobile Pediatric Cabinet II" project has expanded and consultations have been offered in over 300 Moldovan villages. With three camper vans equipped with modern appliances, pediatricians and ultrasound specialists, continued to offer consultations and advice to mothers on how to properly care for their children.

Protected Families[edit]

Say NO to domestic violence!

The "Protected Families" campaign launched on August 16, 2016, is a national information campaign against violence in the family.[30] The objectives of this campaign are the real contribution to preventing, detecting and solving cases of abuse against children and women in the Republic of Moldova, as well as stimulating the involvement of all in combating this phenomenon.

The first Edelweiss Cabinet for Psychological and Legal Counseling was opened on September 15, 2016, in Hîncești city. This place was specially created to receive and guide women and children in need of support in cases of domestic violence.[31][32][33]

A new life[edit]

The "A new Life" campaign, launched on July 12, 2016, offers to mothers from the Institute for Mother and Child in Chișinău necessary products for the first months of the baby's life. The boxes with baby products will be offered by Edelweiss for all children born at the Institute for Mother and Child.[34][35]

In 2017, the project "A New Life" was launched in three other maternity from Nisporeni, Edineț and Cahul, where was offered to mothers a newborn baby box.This project is about to be extended at national level.[36]

On March 21, 2018, the campaign "A New Life" expanded to 20 other maternity clinics in the country: Bălţi, Cantemir, Călăraşi, Căușeni, Cimişlia, Criuleni, Ceadîr-Lunga, Drochia, Fălești, Floreşti, Hâncești, Ialoveni, Rezina, Rîșcani, Sângerei, Soroca, Strășeni, Șoldănești, Ștefan Vodă, Ungheni. The purpose of this action remains to be the same - giving mother a newborn baby box.[37]
