History
The French Dispatch was founded in 2021 by Julien Hoez, with the initial goal of the publication being to explain the ongoing 2022 French presidential election and 2022 French legislative election, due to a perceived lack of impartiality in the coverage of these events in Anglophone media, as well as a lack of understanding of cultural and political history that caused behaviour.
Following these elections, and with a growing interest in the coverage being provided, The French Dispatch became a long-term online news publication, expanding its coverage to European politics and international geopolitics.
As of July 2025, the publication had garnered over 460,000 views from more than 290,000 individual users across its lifetime, with a regular monthly readership of between 40,000 and 50,000.[1].
Coverage
The French Dispatch’s journalism has a heavy focus on French politics, with regular coverage of current events in France, as well as more in-depth analysis of French contributions to European politics and international affairs.
Aside from this, The French Dispatch covers European current events, as well as global geopolitics, covering topics such as diplomacy, geopolitics, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and other active political developments.
