"天才基本法" (English: The Heart of Genius) is a TV series directed by Shen Yan, adapted from Chang'er's novel of the same name published in Jinjiang Literature City.[1] The whole play closely follows the main theme of mathematics and the pursuit of love,[2] telling the inspirational stories of Lin Chaoxi (played by Zhang Zifeng), Pei Zhi (played by Zhang Xincheng) and others traveling through two parallel worlds many times and facing challenges head-on. This play will be screened simultaneously on CCTV-8 and iQiyi on July 22, 2022.[3][4][5][6][7]

This play involves two parallel worlds: Strawberry World and Cheese World. With the help of objects in another world, travel can be achieved under certain conditions. After the characters in one world complete their journey, they will replace their "self" in the other world. For example, after Strawberry Peizhi travels to the world of cheese, his consciousness will enter the body of Cheese Peizhi, and the original cheese Peizhi will be locked in the "little black room of consciousness". Only under special circumstances such as Strawberry Peizhi returning to the Strawberry World, or actively hypnotizing himself (generating consciousness exchange), Cheese Peizhi's consciousness will be released and gain freedom of consciousness[8][9][10]
Main thread[edit]
The film is mainly divided into the following three parts according to the narrative clues.
Lin Chaoxi and Ji Jiang (formerly known as Dang Aimin) from the Strawberry World traveled to the Cheese World (parallel space) due to an "accident" and returned to primary school, but Lin Zhaoxi became an orphan living with Dang Aimin in an orphanage inexplicably. The two worked hand in hand, experienced incidents such as the Mathematical Olympiad training camp, and successfully returned to the Strawberry World.
Later, Lin Chaoxi met Pei Zhi, the object of his crush. Pei Zhi told him that he was investigating a recording pen incident. His father (the father in Strawberry World has passed away) stayed together and refused to go back with Lin Zhaoxi. The two fought each other for a long time. Finally, Pei Zhi changed his mind and the two returned to Strawberry World together.
On the other hand, in Cheese World, Cheese Peizhi realizes that the person he really loves is Lin Chaoxi from Strawberry World, so he tries his best to design a series of events, travels to Strawberry World and wants to replace Strawberry Peizhi, but in the end he is defeated by Strawberry Lin Zhaoxi saw it through, and then Cheese Pei Zhi returned to the Cheese World, and Strawberry Pei Zhi regained his freedom[11][12][13][14]
In addition, the storylines of the above three parts closely revolve around the mutual travel between the four parallel worlds, namely Cheese Lin Zhaosheng x1; Strawberry Lin Zhaoxi and Ji Jiang x1; Strawberry Peizhi and Lin Zhaoxi x1; Cheese Peizhi x1 . Among them, the first time travel (i.e. Cheese Lin Zhaoxi x1) is a dark line running through the film, that is, Cheese Lin Zhaosheng first traveled to the Strawberry World through the blood on Lin Zhaoxi’s mother’s dictation letter before she died, and changed the fate of Strawberry Lin Zhaoxi. Shanghai Wenhui Po commented that in terms of character design, due to the existence of multiple time and space, the same character appears three-dimensional and moving; The plot of the world is a bit procrastinated and weak.[17] The Shanghai Wenhui Po commented that this play shows the various possibilities of life through the connections and dialogues of multiple time and space, and piece together the complete life trajectory and mental journey of the characters, allowing the audience to witness the rough truth of human nature. People's Daily commented that the uniqueness of this play lies in the three-dimensional presentation of mathematics, which makes it easy for the audience to understand, and clarifies that mathematics is an important proposition that human beings think about the world.[18] Guangming.com commented that this drama is quite realistic and encourages young people to pursue love and work hard.[19] Some fans of the original book were dissatisfied with the adaptation of Pei Zhi's character, thinking that the director should not blacken him. The director believes that the modification will indeed damage the role of Pei Zhi, but this drama uses "Pei Zhi's imperfection to complete a greater plot promotion".[20]
