The Heike Story (Japanese: 平家物語 Hepburn: Heike Monogatari) is an upcoming Japanese original net animation (ONA) series produced by animation studio Science SARU. This series is based on the classic Japanese epic The Tale of the Heike which is written by Hideo Furukawa in 2016.[1] On September 15, 2021, Funimation will stream this anime in North American territories, bilibili will stream this anime in China, Southeast Asia and South Asia and FujiTV On Demand (FOD) will stream this anime in Japan. The regular television broadcast will start in January 2022 on FujiTV's Plus Ultra programming block.[1]

This anime is being produced by Japanese studio Science SARU, directed by Naoko Yamada, with a script written by Reiko Yoshida and music composed by Kensuke Ushio. Original character concepts are by Fumiko Takano and Takashi Kojima is designing the characters. Tomotaka Kubo is directing the art and Ken Hashimoto is the colour key artist. Shotaro Imai is in charge of directing in-between animation and Kazuto Izumita for directing photography. Kiyoshi Hirose is in charge of editing. Eriko Kimura is directing the audio and Hiromune Kurahashi is composing the sound effects. Yoshihiko Sata is in charge of historical supervision and finally Yukihiro Gotō is overseeing the portrayal of Biwa.[3]
