The Lady of Heaven (Arabic: سيدة الجنة‎) is an upcoming epic historical drama directed by Eli King with John Stephenson as Creative Consultant, It was written by Sheikh Al-Habib. It is the first film in the history that tells the remarkable story of Lady Fatima, the Daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. The film was produced by Enlightened Kingdom.:[1]

Synopsis

The heart-wrenching journey of Lady Fatima, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad. Separated by 1400 years, an Iraqi child, in the midst of a war-torn country, learns the importance and power of patience. After losing his mother, the child finds himself in a new home, where a loving grandmother narrates the historical story of The Lady and how her suffering as the first victim of terror spun out of control into the 21st century.[2]

Cast

Production

Filming took place in Georgia between August and October 2019 in the cities of Tbilisi, Rustavi, and mainly Vaziani where the majority of the shooting took place.[4][5][6] It took the production team over 2 months to build the sets for Mecca and Medina as imagined in 622 AD. It was essential to ensure historical accuracy in every aspect of the production, leading the production company to carry out meticulous research.

Stephenson believes the film will cater for the appetite of Muslims and Western audiences alike, stating:

It is a wonderful epic story full of Shakespearean intrigue, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ meets ‘Game of Thrones’, an innovative way of seeing the origins of Islam and the Holy Figures from the point of view of our young modern-day hero Laith. We will be drawn into a world that sees the history of the religion’s birth as a wonderful action-packed story full of color. Juxtaposed against the stark colorless reality of the present-day war- torn Middle East it will be an innovative cinematic experience full of revelations, magic and incredible performances all set in and against the beautiful and dramatic landscape of eastern landscape of Georgia.

In accordance with Islamic tradition, during the making of this film no individual represented a Holy Personality. The performances of the Holy Personalities were achieved through a unique synthesis of actors, in-camera effects, lighting and visual effects.[7]

In featuring the story of Lady Fatima, the filmmakers also had to work around the delicate issues depicting a holy figure on the screen. There are many religious codes with rules regarding the proper way to show sacred figures. The filmmakers did copious amounts of research prior to filming in order to abide by these codes and show respect to the communities in which “The Lady” originates.

Malik Shlibak, filmmaker said:

One of the important things to mention is that we put extreme time and effort to make sure the film is historically accurate, so everything is backed by historical texts. Then you come to how those texts are interpreted, which is where the healthy conversations and differences that people may have.

Filmdaily reports the filmmakers used groundbreaking technology to keep in line with these codes and show respect for Islamic tradition while depicting “The Lady’s” story as accurately as possible.[8]

Reception

Marketing

The first official trailer was released in December 2020 and picked up close to two 2 million organic views in its first month. As an independent film production, the trailer has since seen hundreds of reaction videos and thousands of reposts and comments online.

Arguably, due to the film’s narrative tying with Iraqi heritage, the film has picked up traction in this region leading to posters being printed and places on city walls, billboards, and holy shrines. Fans have also displayed the trailer on big screens at intersections across the main cities in Iraq.[9][10]

In response to the public’s reaction to the trailer, Hussain Ashmere, Executive Producer on the project, says simply that[11][12]

There are 250 films on Jesus Christ, 120 films about Moses, 80 about the other Prophets, and 40 films about Buddha, but there are none about the life of Lady Fatima the Daughter of the Prophet Muhammed, until now.

In 1st March 2021, Deadline Hollywood announced that Hannibal Media will be handling worldwide rights of The Lady of Heaven at the virtual European Film Market the same week.[13][14]
