The Last Artisan is a 2018 documentary film, produced, written and directed by Craig McTurk. The film follows Teo Veoh Seng, a retiring artisan who reflects on his life and legacy of Haw Par Villa. It also shows the experiences of two apprentices who are mentored by Mr Teo as he passes down his craft and skill.[1][2]
The film premiered at the Singapore International Film Festival on December 5, 2018 at The Cathay.
Production[edit]
The motivation for making the film came from Craig McTurk, an American filmmaker who has been in Singapore for 18 years. McTurk stated that "It was vital to document the story of Mr Teo". According to McTurk, production of the film took 2 years to complete with grants and funding from various organisations such as the National Heritage Board, Kickstarter and his current school, Ngee Ann Polytechnic where he is a Senior Lecturer.[3][4][5]
