The Last of Us is a 2020 fan-made short film produced and directed by Phil Piasecki and written by Neil Druckmann. It is based upon a scene from the 2013 action-adventure game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment[1]

Plot[edit]

Joel Miller enters an abandoned child's room and a derelict abandoned home and notices Ellie with a diary in her hand commenting about how easy life would be if she just had to worry about boys and movies and clothes. Joel tells her that they're leaving the area in which the house is located and Ellie disagrees about leaving. Joel then retells her about how valuable her life is, and how dangerous it was for her to leave in a dangerous place. Ellie then wants Joel to admit to abandoning her and leaving but Joel dodges the question entirely saying how his brother, Tommy Miller knows the area better than himself and that he trusts his brother more than himself. Ellie then asks Joel what he is afraid of, and reaffirms him that she won't end up like Sam because of her Immunity to the Cordyceps fungus. Joel sternly reminds her of the close calls they had before getting there and that she would be safer with Tommy. Ellie mentions Joel's deceased daughter Sarah and how she's sorry for his loss. Joel immediately gets aggressive towards Ellie telling "You're treading on some mighty thin ice" and that she doesn't understand what loss is. Ellie immediately retorts back angrily at Joel telling him that she lost everyone except for him and going with someone else scares her more than if she stayed with Joel. Joel then tells Ellie that they aren't father and daughter and that they're going to "go our separate ways" before telling her to prepare since they aren't alone in the area. The film ends with a pan to the diary Ellie was reading and the Window Sill she sat on, before fading to black.
