The Little Mermaid is an upcoming British-American film directed by Rebecca Thomas from a screenplay by Richard Curtis. Produced by Universal Pictures, it is a live-action adaptation based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale of the same name.[1] Serving as producers are Tim Bevan, Liza Chasin, Eric Fellner and Amelia Granger.

On July 8, 2010, it was reported that Universal Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation based on Han's Christian Andersen's tale of the same name.[2] Sofia Coppola was in talks to direct the film. but she dropped out the project for "creative differences".[3][4]
Rebecca Thomas was in talks to direct the film and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce under their Working Title Films banner, with Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger set to executive produce.[5] Richard Curtis will write the script for the film.[6][7]
