The Modbeats are an American rock band/ from New Jersey.

History

The Modbeats are a Cherry Hill, New Jersey–based four-piece rock’n’roll band formed in 2023 who blend classic 1950s/60s rock (surf, jangle-pop and power-pop) with mod and rockabilly touches. The lineup includes Philip Dunn (vocals/guitar, principle song writer), Joe Mandia (guitar), Scott Matison (bass) and Fizz (drums). They launched their debut single “Ballad of a Starving Artist” with a b-side “Rocking Chair” on Mayleen Records in summer 2024 and built momentum through a string of singles and local shows while earning strong critical praise, including Music Connection’s Hot 100 list for 2024[1] . Their sound and aesthetic — often described as a “love letter to the golden age of rock ’n’ roll” — have been highlighted in press coverage and interviews[2] . Their debut LP Ballad of a Starving Artist was released to positive reviews in 2025[3] .
