The Prince of Landis is a 2021 video game which was developed by Lorestrome and published by Ratalaika Games S.L. It was released on November 5, 2021.
Plot
A bullied young boy named Evan discovers an alien stranded in the woods near his rural 1980s Oregon home. Evan attempts to nurse the alien back to health by bringing it animals to serve as nourishment, before finally tricking his school bullies into entering the alien's territory and watching as it kills them. The alien then explains to Evan that its chances of survival will increase if he agrees to join it as it returns to space, and Evan agrees to leave the Earth and to accompany it on its intergalactic voyage.
Release
On November 3, 2021, publisher Ratalaika Games announced that The Prince of Landis would be released on November 5.[1] It was released on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.[2]
Reception
The Prince of Landis received mixed reviews.
Jake Plant of Xbox Tavern awarded it a score of 5.8 out of ten, saying, "The Prince of Landis has some redeeming qualities, most notably the art style and the story/setting, and adventure game fans might find something they like here, but ultimately it falls short, mostly due to the shallow gameplay."[3]
Dave Ozzy from Xbox Hub awarded it a score of three out of five, praising the story but criticising the simplicity of the gameplay, saying "The Prince of Landis is far more successful as a story than it is a game. It’s a take on the ‘80s-kids-find-something-supernatural’ template, but pushes it in a lonely, unsettling direction that also manages to feel original."[4]
Daniel Waite from Movies Games and Tech awarded it a score of seven out of ten, saying "It's an interesting title that captures your imagination while keeping you hooked from start to finish."[5]
