The Realistics are a rock and roll band from New York City. They were active between 1998 and 2003, before their breakup after headlining the Joe Strummer Memorial Concert at Irving Plaza.
They reunited to perform at the Mercury Lounge's 25th anniversary event, on February 15, 2019, which they sold out.[1]
History
The Realistics formed in 1998, when Will and Mike decided to start a new band, because their current band, The Charade, didn't give them the opportunity to play their own songs. They recruited Dennis and Dave, who they knew from other bands, and the Realistics were born.[2]
Singer Dennis Cahlo is included as an interviewee in the book Meet Me in the Bathroom, an oral history of the New York City rock scene between 2001 and 2011.
Band Members
Dennis Cahlo (also credited as Dennis Codispoti) sings and plays guitar. Mike Dos Santos sings and plays the bass. Will Schalda sings and plays keyboards. Dave Patrikios plays drums. Each member contributes to songwriting.
Discography
Cassette Demo (1999)
The cassette demo includes three songs the band wrote during their first practice — "Toni Marie," "Suck You Dry" and "Should've Known"[2], the last of which remained a staple of their live show. The other songs include "Dead Beats Don't" and "2,000 Bugs." It was recorded at Keap Street Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY during the Spring of 1998. It's estimated that roughly 1,000 copies were pressed, sold at shows and via mail order, and distributed to East Coast record stores.[3]

Poison & Sympathy (Unreleased)
Poison & Sympathy was recorded in the summer of 2003 at BC Studios in Brooklyn, NY, by Martin Bisi. It was shelved after the band's breakup and is unreleased.
