The Rusty Mutts are an American blues rock trio from Bay City, Texas. Formed in 2025, the band is known for its gritty blend of garage rock and Southern blues, drawing comparisons to acts such as The Stone Foxes, The Black Keys, and The Raconteurs. The group consists of vocalist Luke Betancourt, guitarist Jarrod Yount, and bassist Chris Petty.[1]
History
The Rusty Mutts formed when longtime friends and co-workers Betancourt, Petty, and Yount began writing music and sharing them via text and e-mail.[2]
Their debut EP, Blood & Reverb, released independently in 2025, captured their live-in-the-room sound with standout tracks like "Mountaintop" and "That Road". That same year, the trio launched their *Blood & Reverb 2025 Tour*.
Musical style
The Rusty Mutts’ sound is rooted in the traditions of Delta and Texas blues but delivered with garage-rock grit and minimalist arrangements. Their recordings often feature live takes with minimal overdubs, creating what critics have called “a whiskey-soaked mix of rebellion and rhythm.” Their influences include Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, The White Stripes, and The Stone Foxes.
