The Scavengers is a British geek rock band formed in Manchester in March 1992, consisting of four members Mark Bell (b. 1972; vocals, guitar), James Scott (b. 1972; vocals, keyboards, guitar), Nicky Hughes (b. 1971; vocals, bass) and Daniel Powell (b. 1972; drums).
The Scavengers were scouted by Sony-affiliated talent agencies and put together in the early-1990s. Most of their work was featured, produced or co-written by Andy Connell and John Linnell, formerly of the bands Swing Out Sister and They Might Be Giants, respectively.
The pair's first release "Deadlock" (1992) was topped the UK Singles Chart. They gained mainstream success in UK during 1994. They performed and recorded ending theme for the animated series Dexter's Laboratory (with actor Mako did the narration at the beginning of the ending theme, Oingo Boingo guitarist Steve Bartek played the guitar on the ending theme and Genndy Tartakovsky did the backing vocals). The band breakup in August 2000.
Influences[edit]
They have mentioned They Might Be Giants, Devo, XTC, Oingo Boingo and Joy Division/New Order as their main influences, as well as British comedy rock bands Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias and The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
