The Schweitzer Institute
The Schweitzer Institute (also known as The Albert Schweitzer Institute or The Schweitzer Institute for Environmental Ethics).[1] is a non-profit organisation that explores the interaction between ecological values, such as sustainability, and the human domination of nature—or ‘what it means for humans to live in right relationship with Earth's life-systems’ (Benedict Rattigan, Director). [2]
The Institute was founded in the United States in 1984 as the Albert Schweitzer Memorial Foundation, in honour of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Albert Schweitzer. [3] It organises conferences and publishes an open-access peer-reviewed journal, [4] [5] as well as conducting programs that link education, voluntarism and ethics [6] and publicly advocating for animal welfare, human rights and the environment.[citation needed]
