The Simon Foundation for Continence is the oldest US patient-led organization devoted to assisting people with incontinence, along with their caregivers. The Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to bringing the topic of incontinence out into the open, Removing the stigma surrounding incontinence, And providing help and hope for people with incontinence, their families, and the health professionals who provide their care. This is accomplished through the creation of several websites with numerous resources, written materials, an educational program, I Will Manage, and two books on the topic.[1] [2][3]

The Simon Foundation for Continence was established in 1982 in Chicago, Illinois and was incorporated in 1983. The organization has been led by its founder, Cheryl B. Gartley, since its inception until present day.[4] Ms. Gartley established Simon Foundation for Continence Canada, in 1986, and that organization is now called the Canadian Continence Foundation and is a stand-alone organization. Publications[edit]

The Simon Foundation for Continence offers Facts Sheets, a newsletter (The Informer) and two books for those interested in learning more about incontinence: Managing Incontinence and Managing Life with Incontinence. These are available through their websites. The Foundation also contributes original articles to medical journals.[7]

Conference[edit]

In 2007, the Foundation began its biennial conference series entitled "Innovating for Continence: The Engineering Challenge." This conference series was initiated to encourage entrepreneurs, researchers, industry, scientists, healthcare professionals and academics to focus more attention on meeting the unmet product and treatment needs of those with both urinary and bowel incontinence.[8]
