The Young Shaven was an international post-punk band based in Istanbul, Turkey. Drawing from a spectrum of influences, they combined Chicago and San Francisco music vibes with the sound of Istanbul and their life experience there.[1][2]
History
The Young Shaven was created in 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey, at the initiative of American vocalist Archie McKay and Turkish guitarist Volkan Kahraman. They were joined by Jacob Kanelos (bass) and Sean de Koekkoek (drums) and started regularly touring the rock bars and music venues in and around the city.[3] [4] They quickly released a number of EPs with labels such as Vintage Records, Personal Space Records and GRGDN.
English guitarist and former Death in Vegas member Ian Button was approached by McKay and contributed to the signature sound of the band by mixing and mastering the singles Raise A Laugh, Cig No Fire, and Beck and Call as well the album Hidden Hips.[5]
In September 2018, The Young Shaven opened for the Oh Sees concert in Istanbul Zorlu Performing Arts Center.[6][7] On the same month, the video of their single "Raise a laugh" was included in Red Bull Music Warm Up.[8]
In June 2019, The Young Shaven participated in the Electric Orpheus Festival near Plovdiv (Bulgaria).[9]
