"The shadow of the snake" (Arabic: ظل الأعى) is a novel written by Egyptian author and manuscript expert Youssef Zeidan in 2006. It was published by Dar Al-Shorouk.[1]
The novel talks about a man trying to please his wife after she broke up with him for no known reason. He tries to get help from her grandfather (Pasha) to talk to her. Later it turns out that the wife was receiving letters by mail from her mother, who had abandoned her as a child after the death of her father.[2] The aim of the novel in general is to show the importance of the female historically and her progression from the previously sanctified status to the currently desecrated status and her treatment as inferior by the male. This is done through the letters that the mother used to send to her daughter, which tell about the female.[2] The time of the story takes place on one day, which is 13 June 2020.[3][4]
