The Three Comma Club simply means the billion dollar mark; the three commas are meant to symbolize the three commas that appear within the billion integer as $1,000,000,000. Members are people who have been valued at a billion dollars in valuation. To be a member of the Three Comma Club is to be a billionaire.[1] It is an exclusive club that is limited to those whose net worth is valued at a billion dollars or more. Stories have been heard of people who began destroying and breaking their properties out of anger upon finding they were now worth $980,000,000 dollars and no longer of the Three Comma Club.[2]

History & Origination

The term Three Comma Club first appeared in the popular American HBO comedy series Silicon Valley (TV series), where Russ Hanneman, portrayed by Chris Diamantopoulos, claimed that he was a member of the Three Comma Club.[3] As of 2019, there were about 2,153 members of the Three Comma Club: 718 from Asia, 631 from North America, 559 from Europe, 85 from South America, 38 from Oceania, and 25 from Africa. Their ultra-rich members are collectively worth over $8.7 trillion dollars, down $400 billion from 2018.

Rise of New Members

In 2019, 19 new members joined the Club for the first time. Four of these members joined as a result of death or divorce, including Julia Koch and Jeff Bezos's ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos. The 19 new members of the 2019 Forbes 400, in order of net worth:[4]
