Thunderbird Releasing is a London-based all-rights film distribution company, distributing independent film content across all genres. Incorporated in 2017 following the acquisition of Soda Pictures, the company releases 25+ films a year, with a library of over 200 titles. Following the departure of its managing director,[1] Thunderbird ceased distribution activities in 2019. [2]
Thunderbird has released such groundbreaking films as Cannes hit Toni Erdmann, Emily Dickinson biopic A Quiet Passion starring Cynthia Nixon and directed by Terence Davies, High Life by Claire Denis, and Palme d'Or winning Shoplifters, as well as a number of films by Kelly Reichardt and Jim Jarmusch.
Thunderbird Releasing was part of the Thunderbird Entertainment Group, a film and television production company based in Vancouver, but was sold in early 2021.[citation needed]
