Timor Aklin (Hebrew: תִּמּוֹר-דָּוִד עֲקָלִין; born 15 June 1993) is an Arab-Jew, Jewish-Israeli rights activist and storyteller.

He runs the non-profit organization HIPS: Hidden In Plain Sight, where he advocates for Jewish rights in Israel using his unique leverage as a born Muslim. [1] He is a convert to Judaism.[2] He strongly opposes Islam and has criticized its founders harshly.[3]

Early life[edit]

Aklin was born and raised in Jaffa and comes from a semi-tribal family that consists of over twenty uncles and more than 80 cousins. Most of them, at least from the side of his mother's family, Zed, are involved in crime. He, on the other hand, preferred to spend his childhood and youth studying. until the age of 17, then he wandered the world for almost a decade, exploring the realms of Mixed Martial Arts, Brazillian-Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. He struggled mostly due to multiple surgeries and severe health issues including a ruptured shoulder, torn knee, spinal injuries and a broken rib from a car accident in 2014 which left him hospitalized in Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center for two weeks and in a wheelchair, for a few months. Among other things, he worked as a documentary photographer and filmmaker until he returned to Israel before the outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic with the clear intention of converting to Judaism, "Despite having Muslim observant parents, I used to consider myself as a closet Jew, but one day a man in the rain asked me if I could be the 10th for the Minyan, and felt compelled the next day to reach out to the rabbinate and sort the official status of my Jew-validity." [4]

Personal life[edit]

Timor is trilingual: he is fluent in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Timor's maternal grandparents are from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Yemen. His paternal grandparents are from Turkey, Jordan and Syria. They are devoted Sunni Muslims. He is considered an apostate and received many death threats publicly across multiple social media platforms after his conversion was announced by the media which is why he is banned from entering the most sensitive area in Jerusalem, the Temple mount area. [5]

Activism[edit]

Timor Aklin advocates for Jewish rights on the temple mount and had aligned himself with those who are pushing for the joint prayer of Jews and Muslims in Muslim controlled areas. He had taken a bold stance in supporting the cause by entering The Dome of The Rock and had recited out loud the "Shema Yisrael" prayer.[6]

His video had sparked outrage on social media among Jews and Arabs. Some Jews were upset and accused him of causing provocation by entering the site, while other Jews praised him for his grit and 'Kiddush Hashem'. The nature of the Arabic comments got the attention of the Israeli Police as they had recognized a potential outrage. To calm the spirits, to the request of the Waqf, Aklin was later arrested, interrogated and accused of attempting to destabilize the region and disrupt the safety of the public. Then he was released and banned from coming anywhere near the Temple Mount gates. As a reply for the ban Aklin had told the police "I do not need permission to enter the house of our father".

On the 15th of November Israeli Arab Knesset Members Ahmad Tibi and Ayman Odeh made a public announcement on live television: "We want to warn," stated Tibi in connection with the establishment of the new Netanyahu government, "any attempt to change the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in every square and every meter of it, will ignite a spark in the Middle East and set the whole region on fire." Tibi said.[7]

On the 16th of November, on Israeli Newspaper "Makor Rishon", Aklin made some bold accusations. "They are agents of the terrorist organizations," Aklin slammed Tibi while adding, "The glue that holds the idea of a Palestinian state is the Temple Mount. Without the Temple Mount there is nothing for Tibi, Odeh and their likes. Without it they have no way to motivate any kind of Muslim sentiment in the entire world. They need the Temple mount because it is the resuscitation machine for their political platform. Their only ideology is the desire to destroy the country from within, to pierce it, like a cancer that spreads. Not only do they not care about the Jews who live here, they also don't care about the Arabs who live here. They enjoy continuing the status quo of ignorance and stupidity. They are so pressured to preserve the status quo on the Mount because for them it is an indication that Judaism is void from the world, as Islam promises. A Jewish presence on the Temple Mount breaks them from the inside because throughout the years they were assured that these people (Jews) will eventually become extinct. If the Jews do not become extinct, this cancels the truth of the 'prophecy' that was bequeathed to them." [8]

Timor Aklin ascended the Temple Mount as a Jew, entered the Dome of the Rock and recited "Shema Yisrael Hashem Eloheino Hashem Ehad", When asked why he did this, he replied, "I made amends for a terrible injustice that occurred here about 1400 years ago. Then the Muslims took over the Land of Israel, Jerusalem and the Temple Mount and a little later they appropriated the sanctity of Mount Moriah to their religion which was in its infancy and thus intended to give it more validity since the mountain was sacred to Jews and Christians." [9]

Lag B'aomer incident[edit]

On the Jewish holiday of Lag B'aomer, a group of Arabs attacked Timor's synagogue while he was there, and they used a brick to smash a member's head and crack his skull open. He was taken to the police station as key witness; "There was absolutely no personal motive for the attack, they had no specific target in mind", yet the Israeli Police had decided the nature of the event is not based on Antisemitic basis, to which Aklin disagreed. Two of the attackers who were arrested and released, died days later in a motorbike accident. [10]

Qalqilya incident[edit]

On the 30th of April, Timor had gone to the Doctor's office and came across an Israeli couple that came under a vicious violent attack. The couple were robbed and attacked by a group of Palestinians, he managed to chase the attackers away and transported the Israeli couple to safety in the settlement of Tsofim. The Israeli media did not receive a statement from him at the time, and they accused the Israeli couple of shopping in a forbidden area, when the couple in fact, weren't shopping but were two non-hebrew speaking Olim-Hadashim who were lost with bad GPS signal and accidentally entered an Arab village asking for help. [11]

Views[edit]

Aklin is a Religious Zionist. He supports the idea of a one state solution. He does not recognize the 'Palestinian' entity and claims there was never such a thing as Palestinians. He is in favor of annexation of all territories in The West Bank (Judea and Samaria). He believes the Palestinian invention is a colonial invention with a Nazi-antisemitic root going all the way back to Haj Amin Al Husseini days, with the sole Islamic purpose of erasing Jewish history, as commanded by Muhammad.[12]

Education[edit]

A documentary filmmaker [13] and is currently a government, diplomacy and strategy student at Reichman University.
