History

Formation and Nocturnal (2018–2020)

To Octavia was formed in 2018 by Justin Keurntjes, Molly Congreve, and Lucas Keurntjes in Melbourne, Australia.[1] The three had been friends since elementary school, with Molly and Lucas having previously played together in a pop-punk band in high school. The band reached out to Merry Kirk-Holmes after seeing them sing and play guitar on Facebook, leading them to join the band.[2] The band's original lineup also included vocalist Matt Ashley.[3] The band's name originates from an unpublished poem written by Edgar Allan Poe.[1]

To Octavia released their debut single "After All" on 6 June 2018. The band released singles "XIII" and "Made to Break" before the release of their debut EP Nocturnal on 26 April 2019. The EP was mastered by Chris Lalic of the band Windwaker. Leading up to the EP's release, To Octavia played shows supporting Alpha Wolf, Thornhill, Secrets, The Brave, and Windwaker.[3]

To Octavia released the standalone single "They Tell Me They're With Me" on 28 February 2020. Soon after, the band supported The Brave on their national tour beginning in March.[4] The final date of the tour, originally scheduled for 4 April, was postponed to 4 September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
