The TOBU Bus Co., Ltd. (東武バス株式会社 Toubu Basu Kabushiki-gaisha) is a bus company within the Tobu Group which was established on 30 January 2002[1] to inherit all shares of the Tobu Railway bus department.
Outline
The bus company was established on 30 January 2002 by spinning off from Tobu Railway for business improvement. As it is, the company started managing business on 30 September 2002.[2][3] Besides, the bus company was split into Tobu Bus East, Tobu Bus Central, Tobu Bus West, and Tobu Bus Nikko.[4] The company does not operate any bus routes because it is a holding company structure with assets of Tobu Bus Nikko, Tobu Bus Central, Tobu Bus West. But, the company sells tickets for bus routes which the bus companies operate, and manages lease of property and chattel.
History[5]
History before splitting from a bus department of Tobu Railway
A history of Tobu Bus is inspired by establishing Mobu Car[6] which was an affiliated company of Tobu Railway in Gunma and Saitama in 1933 and a bus department of Tobu Railway in Kawagoe in 1 April 1934. In September 1936, the two bus companies were amalgamated into Tobu Car[7] and the bus company got service areas of Saitama, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi from affiliated companies.
After the World War Ⅱ, the bus company and Nikko Kido were taken over by Tobu Railway. But, the bus company ran a deficit around 1980 because passengers decreased. The Tobu Railway decided to split into affiliated companies in September 2001 because it was difficult to continue operating route, expressway and sightseeing buses.[8] The offices and bus routes that Tobu Bus has not been transferred are transferred to Asahi Motor Group since around 1990.
