Tom Sawyer Software is an American software company whose flagship product is Tom Sawyer Perspectives a low-code graph and data visualization and analysis development platform to software development. Integrated design and preview interfaces and extensive API libraries allow developers to quickly create custom applications to solve big data problems. These applications are used by enterprises, systems integrators, technology providers, and government agencies to discover hidden patterns, complex relationships, and key trends in large and diverse datasets, such as:[1]

History[edit]

  • 1992 — Tom Sawyer Software was founded and developed first graph layout algorithms[2]
  • Early 1990s — Released Hierachical layout, Circular layout, Symmetric layout, and support for nested drawings.[3]
  • Late 1990s — Released Graph Editor Toolkit, Orthogonal layout, and the first ever incremental layout.[4]
  • Early 2000s — Received a patent award for Labeling Graphical Features of Drawings, released the Graph Analysis Toolkit, and released Tom Sawyer Visualization.[5]
  • Late 2000s — Released Tom Sawyer Perspectives. Opened development center in Riga.[6]

Products[edit]

Tom Sawyer Perspectives[edit]

Tom Sawyer Perspectives is a low-code graph data visualization and analysis development platform with an integrated design and preview interface extensive API libraries. The platform integrates enterprise data sources with powerful graph visualization, layout, and analysis technology to solve big data problems. Perspectives enables developers to quickly develop production-quality, data oriented visualization applications. Two graphic modules the Designer and Previewer are used to build applications to visualize and analyze the specific data that drives each project.[19] Some features include:

  • Low-code graph and data visualization development platform.
  • Data federation from multiple data sources into a single data model.
  • Drawings, maps, charts, timelines, tables, trees, and inspector data views.
  • Bundle, Circular, Hierarchical, Orthogonal, and Symmetric layouts.
  • Address analytic problems with more than 30 built-in algorithms such as centrality analysis; clustering and partitioning; dependency, impact, and root-cause analysis; path finding; traversals; cycles; trees; and network flows.
  • Flexible filtering; attribute-driven search; synchronized selection and highlighting; overviews; panning and link navigation; and marquee, focal, and interactive zooming.

Tom Sawyer Model-Based Engineering[edit]

With Tom Sawyer Model-Based Engineering, systems engineers can instantly create high quality, customizable diagrams with automated layout for SysML models. Users can create Block Definition, Internal Block, Parametric, Use Case, Activity, State Machine, Package, and Requirements diagrams.[20] Features include:

  • Integration with CATIA No Magic Teamwork Cloud and MagicDraw
  • Deploy to the web and desktop
  • Import from various data sources
  • Generate rigorous diagrams in seconds
  • Produce eight types of SysML-compliant diagrams
  • View synchronized SysML and customized diagrams
  • Create consistent, repeatable customizations
  • Print, export, and save high-quality diagrams
  • Solutions also available for SysML 2.0, IBM Rhapsody, and Open MBEE

Tom Sawyer Graph Database Browser[edit]

Tom Sawyer Graph Database Browser enables graph database users to see and understand connections in their data without extensive knowledge of the query language or schema. Built with Tom Sawyer Perspectives, it makes graph and data visualization and analysis easy to do. Data scientists, analysts, architects, and developers can use Tom Sawyer Graph Database Browser to see connections in five unique graph layouts, view social networks, and perform graph analytics. The web application supports Amazon Neptune, Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB, Neo4j, Apache TinkerPop, Cambridge Semantics, AnzoGraph DB, JanusGraph, and Stardog graph databases.[21] Key features included:

  • Run Gremlin, Cypher, or SPARQL queries and validate data in the database.
  • Load data from many sources using standards.
  • Explore advanced drawing and layout styles.
  • Run built-in graph algorithms: social network analysis, clustering, reachability, shortest path analysis, and traversals and flows.
  • Autodetect and display labeled data types.
  • Automatically execute Amazon Neptune load commands to import data from an S3 bucket.
  • Deployment on premises and on AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplace

Tom Sawyer Business Process[edit]

Tom Sawyer Business Process is a business process design and execution application created for managers, process modelers, and task owners. It provides an intuitive interface for creating BPMN 2.0-compliant processes, and has an integrated process execution engine to ensure processes are run precisely and consistently.[22]

Tom Sawyer Business Process provides three separate modules:

  • Administration enables administrators to define users, roles, and permissions
  • Modeling enables business process designers to model and validate processes, and view a high-level process map of all defined processes and their relationships
  • Execution enables end users to initiate and perform tasks when processes are executing
