Antonio Eugene William Stith (born July 26, 1995), known professionally as Tone Stith, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer from Marlton, New Jersey. He is currently signed to RCA Records[1] and Jas Prince's Young Empire Music Group, with management from MBK Entertainment.[2]
Early life
Antonio Eugene William Stith was born on July 26, 1995, in the census-designated place of Marlton, New Jersey. Being exposed to music at a very young age, he began playing the drums at the age of three.[3] His mother also sang in the church choir, bringing Stith along to her choir rehearsals every Saturday.[3] It was there that he learned his passion and love for music, eventually singing in church choir like his mother. Stith picked up other instruments as well, such as the guitar, piano, and bass.
Stith's childhood friend, Desmond Dennis, shared the same desire to make and perform music, often displaying their passion for rhythm everywhere by dancing and air drumming.[4] In his early teens, Stith began experimenting with production software.[5] Not long after, Stith and Dennis, along with artist K.T., decided to take the next step and form a teen trio. They officially emerged as SJ3, named for their residence in South Jersey.[4]
Career
In the fall of 2013, SJ3 posted a cover of Justin Bieber's single, "Heartbreaker" on YouTube. This caught the attention of Bieber, who eventually showed the video to entrepreneur Jas Prince, the man behind the discovery of Drake. Prince then got in contact with Stith, and brought him out to Los Angeles.
Stith first made his mark after writing and producing a pair of songs for Chris Brown's seventh studio album, Royalty. This included the lead single "Liquor", which peaked at 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and "Make Love". He also contributed to Brown's surprise mixtape, Before the Party, penning the song "Beat It Up".
After being featured on songs by independent artists and releasing music on SoundCloud, Stith released his debut project, Can We Talk via Young Empire Music Group (YEMG) on July 11, 2017.[6] In April of 2018, he released the single "Light Flex", a collaboration with American rapper 2 Chainz, for the soundtrack of the 2018 American sports comedy film, Uncle Drew.[7] On December 7th of the same year, after signing with RCA Records, Stith released Good Company, a seven-track EP with features from Swae Lee, Quavo, and Ty Dolla $ign.[8]
2019 saw Stith penning songs for Chris Brown once again for his ninth studio album, Indigo. Stith was credited as a songwriter for Brown's lead single "Undecided", which debuted and peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also contributed to the songs "Juice" and "Play Catch Up".
Stith returned in 2020 with the standalone single "Devotion", released in November of that year.[9] He then released the lead single "FWM" for his upcoming EP of the same name on February 5, 2021,[10] with the second single, "Like the First Time", released in late May.[11] The nine-track EP FWM was released on June 11, 2021.[12] In promotion of the EP, Stith appeared at the 21st BET Awards, performing "FWM" on the BET Amplified Stage.[13]
