Tones of Rock is a Portuguese glam metal and hard rock band, formed in 2009, in Mafra. As of January 2023, Tones of Rock' current lineup comprises Francis Venus (vocals), Danny Shred (guitar), Rick Madison (bass) and Dylan Krash (drums).

History

Early years

In 2009, influenced by the powerhouse bands that marked Sunset Strip in the 1980s, Francis Venus (vocals) and his brother Danny Shred (guitar) created a project, initially a covers band, which took the name “Tones of Rock”. In the months that followed, the band recruited Jonny Roxxx (drums), Danny Shred's childhood friend, and Katy Kiss (bass), Francis Venus' girlfriend, and Tones of Rock completed their first official formation. Soon after Jonny and Katy joined the band, Tones of Rock stopped being a covers project and started composing their first original themes.

In 2010, around the same time that the band started to perform on stage, the song "She's Talking" was released.

Known as one of the representative bands of the New Wave of Glam Metal in Portugal, Tones of Rock quickly conquered the public's attention for their extravagance, sensuality, and strong performance on stage, inspired by the concept of "Sex, Leggings & Rock 'n' Roll".

Glamourized (2011–2015)

In 2011, with the departure of Katy Kiss, Rick Madison (bass, ex-Kabala) filled the position and the band began a long journey with dozens of concerts from north to south of Portugal, in the years that followed. During the same period, the band finished composing and recording the first songs that would later be released on their debut album.

In 2015, Tones of Rock' debut album - Glamourized - was released. The album, recorded, edited and mixed by the band, received good reviews for its revivalist sound, which greatly honors the legacy of bands like Poison, Mötley Crüe, Guns N 'Roses or Ratt. In addition to the song “She's Talking”, the album also features singles such as “Hot Tiger, Love Desire”[1], “Glam Robot“ and “At The Motel”.

Banzaw Mansion (2016–2020)

In mid-2016, Jonny Roxxx left the band and Tones of Rock introduced a new drummer: Dylan Krash! With a new lineup and a renewed image, the band returned to the stage, while starting to work on new material.

At the end of 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, Tones of Rock fought against the adversities and refreshed the Hair Metal scene by releasing their second studio album, Banzaw Mansion[2], from which the singles “Milfshake"[3][4] and “Volcano” stood out. The release of Banzaw Mansion projected the band to a broader audience beyond borders, provoking good critical acclaim from the United Kingdom, and South American and Central European countries.

New projects (2021–present)

Prevented from being able to perform live due to the limitations imposed by the pandemic situation, Tones of Rock returned to the studio to start composing new music for the successor to Banzaw Mansion.[5]

Musical style and influences

Tones of Rock are described as a glam metal, hard rock and glam rock band, part of the new wave of revivalist bands from the 21st century. In Portugal they are also known as the “Portuguese Poison”.

Despite Tones of Rock being a Glam Metal band, their music also reveals strong influences from Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, Pop Rock and Progressive Rock.
