Towertale is a 2D action-platform video game that has a heavy focus in boss-rush battles. It was developed and published by MiSou Games,[1] an independent game studio based in the Philippines. The goal of the game is to reach the top of the eponymous tower, and reveal its mysteries. The player controls one of the four available player characters, each featuring a unique story of varying difficulty.
The game was originally released for Windows OS on July 30, 2019. Towertale has received positive reviews, with critics praising its level and battle design, story and gameplay.[2][3][4][5][6]
Plot synopsis[edit]
According to the game setting, "The Tower" was created by an ancient being. A legend claims that whoever defeats all of the guardians and reaches the top will have the right to be granted the ultimate wish: the ability to change one's fate. Throughout the past 100 years, many have tried and failed, until four brave souls came forth to challenge their fate.[7][8]
Gameplay[edit]
Towertale contains nonlinear narratives. It offers four different stories to play and the ability to unlock multiple endings. Towertale also has a co-op multiplayer mode for up to four players.
Characters[edit]
There are four playable characters in Towertale:
- Lionel Blueheart – The first prince and heir to the throne of the Lionhead Kingdom. Lionel set out on a quest to challenge his fate when he heard about the legend of "The Tower".
- Faindrel Ashelm – Fainfrel comes from the forgotten civilization of Ashelm, which was enslaved by humans. She grew up in chains. She was rescued by the vigilante Alywyn the Red. Faindrel went to The Tower seeking a power that could rid the world of all evil and end wars.
- Lord Snicklefritz – Snicklefritz is a rabbit-folk from the Sect of Colors. He mastered all forms of magic for all elements. Sensing a force of malice around The Tower, the Four Leaders tasked Snicklefritz to investigate.
- Dark Echo – Dark Echo is an unknown assassin and claims to be the Son of Darkness. Dark Echo thinks he's the best, but his true intentions aren't known.
