TransferGalaxy is a Swedish fintech startup that offers an online money transfer service. They are specialised in international remittance to mobile wallets.[1][2] By visiting the website, customers are able to send money from 25 European countries to 17 countries around the world.[3] The company's headquarters is based in Vivalla, Örebro.[4]

History[edit]

TransferGalaxy was founded in 2014 by the brothers Yosef and Ali Mohamed and childhood friend Khalid Qassim.[5] The idea came from their own personal struggle when sending money to their relatives back in Somalia[6]. They wanted to simplify the process by creating a similar solution to Swish (payment) for foreign payments.[7][8]

Funding[edit]

In 2016 TransferGalaxy received seed funding from angel investors and venture capital firm Backing Minds, led by tech profiles Sara Wimmercranz and Susanne Najafi.[9][10] This was followed by an USD $3.6 million Series A-round in 2018 led by venture capital firm Alfvén & Didrikson.[11][12]

Awards[edit]

TransferGalaxy has received many awards for their innovative service. In 2016 they won "Best Company" at Business Challenge[13] and this was followed by winning "Innovation of the Year" at Örebrogalan 2017.[14][15] The same year the company also took home the award "Best FinTech Startup" at the Nordic Startup Awards.[16]

In 2018 Business Insider declared TransferGalaxy to be one of the 31 hottest Nordic startups to look out for during the year.[17]
