Tristan Connelly (born December 12, 1985) is a Canadian mixed martial arts fighter who is currently signed to the UFC Lightweight division[1] and had previously won the CS(Cage-Sports) Lightweight Championship[2], Unified MMA Lightweight Championship[3], as well as the Rise FC Lightweight Championship[4]
Mixed martial arts career[edit]
Early career[edit]
Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Connelly began competing in mixed martial arts in 2010.[5] He competed in smaller promotions, earning himself a respectable record of 13–6; in that span he managed to capture lightweight championships in 3 different promotions (RFC, CageSport, Unifed MMA).
Having previously won Rise FC Lightweight Championship when he was signed to the UFC. Taking the fight on 5 days notice.[6]
Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]
Connelly made his promotional debut on September 14, 2019, against a dangerous Michel Pereira at UFC on ESPN+ 16.[7] facing Pereira on 5 days notice, in a weight-class above his own. Despite a flashy start from Pereira he quickly gassed allowing Connelly to dominate the remainder of the fight. Connelly won the fight via unanimous decision. Earning a Performance of the Night bonus in a very successful UFC debut[8]
