Tubis Trio is a three-piece jazz band from Poland featuring pianist Maciej Tubis, bassist Paweł Puszczało, and drummer Przemek Pacan.
Music style
Though the trio’s style is inspired by the European jazz tradition (vide ECM Records or ACT Music record labels), its musicians have developed their own style which incorporates elements of classical music and imaginative melodiousness. Their work has been described as “jazz for people who don’t listen to jazz.” Combined with sophisticated solos, Tubis Trio’s compositions prove to appeal to the universal tastes of music lovers around the world.
Critical reception
After “Live in Luxembourg” was chosen the 5th best jazz album in 2009 by Stuart Nicholson of Jazzwise Magazine, he said: “I would simply say that to me you are developing a strong individual voice that sounds as if it comes from Europe and not the USA.” The band also received positive reviews following the releases of their last two studio albums, “The Truth” (2017, Challenge Records, and “Flashback” (2018, Audio Cave). In his review of “The Truth” Geno Thackara of All About Jazz wrote the following: “The chemistry sparks the right kind of positive energy among them, much like a friend you can't help liking because he's always smiling and pleasant to be around.”[1] Angelique Van Os of Jazzism noted in her review of the same album: “Their music is a combination of catchy melodies and a contagious, brilliantly selected light pop rhythm filled with syncopation and elegiac solos, especially by Tubis. The compositions are ear-friendly without being dull”.[2] Their newest record entitled “Flashback” raked in equally enthusiastic reviews. Mery Zimny of Lizard Magazine wrote: “Joy, vigor, melodiousness and superb compositions – that’s how I’d describe ‘Flashback,’ Tubis Trio’s newest album.”[3]
