Critical response[edit]
Lav Diaz, writing for the Manila Standard, gave the film a positive review. He commended its pacing for quickly progressing through the story, as well as its cinematography, editing, and action scenes. Diaz also gave praise to the performances of Michael de Mesa and Lola Rodriguez, singling out Rodriguez as "a revelation" for her magnetic portrayal of a prostitute, stating that "the character she played was the one who received the most sympathy from audiences." He criticized, however, Jean Saburit's performance and Humilde 'Meek' Roxas' screenplay, the latter for its pretentiously philosophical dialogue and implausible sequences, and faulted the film for its conspicuous chauvinist outlook.[2]

Si Lola nama'y isang rebelasyon dito. Yakang-yaka niya ang papel ng puta.... Ang ginampanan niyang karakter ang nakahatak ng pinakamalaking simpatiya sa manunood.
