Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent is a higher educational institution established in partnership with Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy (Italian: Politecnico di Torino):.[1] The main objective of the university is to train specialists for the automotive, mechanical engineering and electrical industries, enterprises and companies of industrial and civil engineering and construction sphere in accordance with the educational programs adopted in collaboration with Polytechnic University of Turin.

Begginigs[edit]

The official foundation date of the university is April 27, 2009, when the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PD-1106 "On the organization of Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent" was issued and from that date, the university began its activity as a higher educational institution in accordance with the Educational Standards of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The main founders of the university in accordance with the constituent documents are "Uzavtosanoat", JSC and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The University is non-governmental non-commercial organization.[2][3] In summer 2009, the first 200 students were admitted[4] for Bachelor’s degree program and the new university building with academic and administrative buildings and campus was commissioned.[5]

Expansion and growth[edit]

In May 2010, it was established an lyceum under the university, specialized in the preparation of students in exact sciences and the building of the lyceum with the capacity of 450 students was constructed and commissioned by September in 2011 year.[6][7] In the same year, a Meteorology Center in cooperation with the Italian branch of Hexagon AB[8], Mechatronics Center with the support of General Motors Powertrain JSC and the German company Festo established at the university.[9]

In 2015, admission for the Master’s degree programm in the specialty direction of "Mechatronics" was organized in the university.[10]

In 2016, the university became received a certificate of ISO 9001: 2008 "Quality management systems".[11]

In 2019, the undergraduate program for obtaining a double degree diploma “2 + 2” was organized in cooperation with the Andijan Machine building Institute. [12]

The campus[edit]

The university territory includes Academic and Administrative buildings, Sports Complex, Specialized laboratory, Technopark and Metrology center. There are also Academic Lyceum, Mechatronics Center, MAN Academy, CAD / CAM / CAE Center and CLAAS Center under the authority of the university.[13]

Education[edit]

The period of study for students to obtain an educational qualification degree is 4 years for Bachelor’s and 2 years for Master's degree. Students are taught in English language[14] with the involvement of professors and teachers of Polytechnic University of Turin (Italian: Politecnico di Torino)[15]

Faculties[edit]

There is only basic technical faculty in the university. And there are the following Undergraduate programs[16]

  2. Information technology and ACS in industry.
  3. Civil engineering and architecture
  4. Automotive Engineering
  5. Management and industrial engineering

Degree diploma[edit]

In accordance with the signed Agreement between the Universities for the awarding of diplomas, graduates receive an Polytechnic University of Turin diploma.[17]

Scientific activity[edit]

The scientific potential of the university today is 50%. The University implements many fundamental, innovative and practical projects, economic contracts, conducts educational and methodological and research under foreign grants. Students actively participate in international science competitions. The number and the quality of scientific articles has increased, great attention is paid to the publication of scientific collections and monographs, as well as the patenting and implementation of scientific developments. In particular, the publication of articles by doctoral students engaged in doctoral dissertations, including in foreign journals, in the popular scientific journals Web of Science and Scopus, is gaining momentum.[18]

Sport activities[edit]

Regularly, sport teams of the university participate in football, basketball, volleyball and swimming activities and sport competitions in collaboration with the participants from other universities.[19][20][21] In 2019, a football academy "Juventus Academy in Tashkent" was opened at the university, which is the official branch of Juventus football Academy in Italy.[22]

International relationships[edit]

TPUT international cooperation with European, American and Asian higher education institutions and companies has been going on for 10 years.[23] TPUT currently cooperates with more than 40 universities and companies from more than 19 countries. Moreover, the university has developed many international projects funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ capacity building program.[24]
