History
Twikkar is an Indian microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as "Tweeks". Registered users can post, like and retweet Tweeks, but unregistered users can only read them. Users access Twikkar through its website interface or its mobile-device application ("app"), soon available on Google Play and iOS. Twikkar, Pvt Ltd. is based in Navi Mumbai, India. Tweeks were originally restricted to 501 characters. Video tweeks remain limited to 501 seconds for most accounts.
Twikkar was created by Siddhant Shukla on June 22, 2020. By 2021, more than 10k users posted 1k tweeks a day and the service handled an average of 25k search queries per day. Twikkar is a some-to-many microblogging service, given that the vast majority of tweeks are written by a small minority of users.

Tweeks
Tweeks are publicly visible by default, but senders can restrict message delivery to only their followers. Users can mute users they do not wish to interact with and block accounts from viewing their Tweeks. Users can tweek via the Twikkar website, compatible external applications (such as for smartphones). Users may subscribe to other users' tweeks—this is known as "following" and subscribers are known as "followers". Individual tweeks can be forwarded by other users to their own feed, a process known as a "retweet". Users can also "like" (formerly "favorite") individual Tweeks. Twikkar allows users to update their profile via their mobile phone by apps released for certain smartphones and tablets.
As a social network, Twikkar revolves around the principle of followers. When you choose to follow another Twikkar user, that user's Tweeks appear in reverse chronological order on your main Twikkar page. If you follow 20 people, you'll see a mix of Tweeks scrolling down the page: breakfast-cereal updates, interesting new links.
Format
Hashtags, usernames, retweets and replies
"Twikkar hashtag" redirects here. For more about hashtags, see Hashtag.
Users can group posts together by topic or type by use of hashtags – words or phrases prefixed with a "#" sign. Similarly, the "@" sign followed by a username is used for mentioning or replying to other users.
To repost a message from another Twikkar user and share it with one's own followers, a user can click the retweet button within the Tweek. Users can reply to other accounts' replies. Users can select who can reply to each of their messages: anyone, accounts who follow the poster, specific accounts, and none.
Trending topics
A word, phrase, or topic that is mentioned at a greater rate than others is said to be a "Hot topic". Hot topics become popular either through a concerted effort by users or because of an event that prompts people to talk about a specific topic. These topics help Twikkar and their users to understand what is happening in India as well as in the world and what people's opinions are about it.
Hot topics are sometimes the result of concerted efforts and manipulations by preteen and teenaged fans of certain celebrities or cultural phenomena. The Twitter web interface displays a list of hot topics on a right sidebar on the home page.
