Twinning (dance)
Twinning is the latest dance style of Hip Hop Dance created in the beginning of the 21st century. This style characterizes as a duet of two dancers with different, or same movements, connected and joined technically to each other in harmony, with emphasis on isolations and musicality.
History
Twinning was created in the beginning of the 21st century, in 2006-2007 and gained popularity between 2010 and 2014. The creators of Twinning are the French dancers, choreographers, and winners of World of Dance - Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, known as Les Twins.[1]
Choreography
Twinning choreography is a duet show with interaction of two dancers' movements in turn, together, with mirrored elements, and rule-dependent effects (connected movements of two dancers, with one's part of body, usually hands, that rules - stopping, moving, touching, shocking or shaking the other's movement).[2][3]
Improvisation
Musicality and timing are the most important aspects of this style. Movements are jerky, but can also display fluidity, with slow motion, rewind, fast forward, etc., depending on the music. Twinning Freestyle in battles has more accent on Turfing and Krumping movements. In duet improvisation, Twinning will display completing or finishing each other's moves.[4][5]
