Tyk is an open source API Gateway, released under the Mozilla licence in 2014.[1]

Tyk is one of the most widely adopted open source API Management platforms, with well over 12 million pulls from Docker Hub[2] metrics for other channels, including Git, AWS and various linux distros are not available at this date.[3]

Tyk was identified as one of the 30 fastest growing technology scale-up companies in the UK in January 2020 and was inducted into the TechNation Upscale[4] programme as a result.

Tyk is a distributed business, with 76 employees, across 26 countries and 6 continents and maintains sales offices in London, Atlanta and Singapore and is regularly cited by major media as a thought leader in remote working. [5] [6][7][8][9] .

Written in Go, Tyk provides the common API Gateway functionality of AuthN and AuthZ, API Analytics and request and response transforms[10]

Tyk has been included continuously in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Full Lifecycle API Management and Forrester Wave[11] reports since 2017. In September 2020 Gartner positioned Tyk as "visionary" in the Magic Quadrant[12]

The open-source API gateway was initially a side project[13], which was then released under the Mozilla Licence in 2014. Tyk now sponsors the Side Project Fund[14], an initiative that provides funding to promising side projects[15]

Tyk Technologies Ltd launched a proprietary API Management product and SaaS option in 2016

Tyk was a bootstrap until 2019 when it secured a Series A funding round of £4m from MMC Ventures[16][17]

Tyk appointed Pontus Noren, co-founder of cloudreach, to the board in 2020[18][19]
