Ultra City Smiths is an American stop motion neo-noir comedy television series created by Steven Conrad that premiered on AMC+ on July 22, 2021 and aired on AMC's cable channel in fall 2021.[1]
The series is produced by AMC Television and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The main cast features Julian Barratt, Kristen Bell, Chris Conrad, Luis Guzmán, Tim Heidecker, Damon Herriman, Hana Mae Lee, Jason Mantzoukas, Caleb McLaughlin, Tim Meadows, Bebe Neuwirth, Terry O'Quinn, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, John C. Reilly, Dax Shepard, Jimmi Simpson, Kurtwood Smith, Tom Waits, and Debra Winger.
Premise[edit]
The megalopolis of Ultra City is shocked by the mysterious disappearance of Ultra City's most famous magnate Carpenter K. Smith. Described as the city's last honest politician, Carperter was planning to run for Mayor of Ultra City where he is running against Kevin De Maximum. When Carpenter K. Smith is found dead in the park, his murder is investigated by intrepid detectives Gail Johnson and David Mills. They find that the suspects all have the last name "Smith" meaning that one of them was responsible.

- David Mills (voiced by Jimmi Simpson) - A detective in the Ultra City Police Department who investigates the death of Carpenter K. Smith. The season finale revealed that David was revealed to have been the baby that was left on the doorstep of the Ultra City Police Department years ago.
- Gail Johnson (voiced by Da'Vine Joy Randolph) - A detective in the Ultra City Police Department and David's partner who investigates the death of Carpenter K. Smith.
- Captain Krieger (voiced by Terry O'Quinn) - The police captain of the Ultra City Police Department.
- Jaya Mukherjee (voiced by Sunita Mani) - A detective in the Ultra City Police Department.
- Carpenter K. Smith (voiced by Kurtwood Smith) - Ultra City's most famous magnate and mayoral candidate who goes missing and is later found dead in the park. He was described as Ultra City's "last honest politician".
- Donovan Smith (voiced by John C. Reilly) - The pampered son of Carpenter K. Smith. He has a man-child personality and is the self-proclaimed "Disco King of the night".
- Kevin De Maximum (voiced by Tim Heidecker) - The current Mayor of Ultra City.
- Jeff Thumb (voiced by Tim Meadows) - The deputy mayor of Ultra City.
- Lady Andrea the Giant (voiced by Bebe Neuwirth) - A former heavyweight wrestling champion.
- Little Grace (voiced by Alia Shawkat) - The daughter of Lady Andrea the Giant.
- Sister Mary Margaret (voiced by Melissa Villaseñor) - Brittany Smith is a nun who is in charge of a charity that helps a local homeless shelter.
- Tim Snodgrass (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas) - A reporter.
- Rodrigo Smalls (voiced by Luis Guzmán) - A crime boss who owns a disco club.
- Chris Pecker (voiced by Dax Shepard) - An incompetent and childish congressman.
- Donella Pecker (voiced by Kristen Bell) - The wife of Chris Pecker who is the director of social services.
- Trish McSapphire (voiced by Debra Winger) - An Academy Award-winning actress who is the stage name of Paula Smith.
- Street Hustler Boy (voiced by Damon Herriman) - Terrence "Terry" Smith is an aging male prostitute and one of the suspects in the death of Carpenter K. Smith.

Production[edit]
When AMC greenlit this series on September 14, 2020, it was originally titled "Mega City Smiths". Steve Conrad later revealed it's new name on February 16, 2021.[2]. On April 2021, the voice cast was announced.[3]

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has an approval rating of 88% based on 8 reviews.[4]
