Umm Wahb bint Abd (Arabic: أُمّ وَهب بنت عَبد) was martyred in the Battle of Karbala.

Lineage[edit]

Umm Wahb was the daughter of Abd from the clan of Nimr ibn Qasit who lived in Kufa[1] and She was Abdullah ibn Umayr Abu Wahab's Wife. Some authors have identified her as the mother of Wahb b. Wahb. However, comparison of different sources and reports about the Battle of Ashura indicate that his mother was another woman.[2]

Joining Hussain ibn Ali[edit]

Under the cover of night, Umm Wahab accompanied her husband, Abdullah ibn Umayr Abu Wahab from Kufa in a journey to Karbala to join the caravan of Hussain ibn Ali.[1]

An the day of Ashura[edit]

After Abdullah ibn Umayr Abu Wahab went to the battlefield, she decided to join the battlefield. So, she picked a stick to go to the battlefield, but Hussain did not give her permission and said that jihad is not obligatory for women.[3]

After her husband was martyred, she went to the battlefield and began wiping the blood off her husband's face. Shimr sent his slave, Rustam, towards her and he hit an iron club at Umm Wahb's head and she was martyred.[4]
