Undertow Games is a Finnish indie game development studio founded by Joonas "Regalis" Pekka Rikkonen.[1] inspired by the popularity and success of his previous game, SCP - Containment Breach based on the SCP Foundation in 2012[2]. Undertow Games was founded on November 19, 2014 and registered in 2023.
History
Undertow Games was originally a solo studio for Joonas until the announcement of Subsurface (renamed Barotrauma)[3] in which they collaborated with Fakefish Games, another Finnish indie game development studio which expanded the team to 10-12 people.[4]However Undertow itself remains with only 1 employee.
In early 2019 Undertow signed a deal with Daedalic Entertainment for publishing and marketing support in ongoing and future projects.[5][6][7]
Undertow's predecessor was SCP-087-B which was an experimental horror game in response to another game created called "SCP-087" by Haversine.[8][9]
In 2018, Undertow Games and Barotrauma received an award for "Best Hardcore Game" by Game Connection Europe.[10]
