Unit 406 is a Filipino alternative/pop rock band formed in January 2016. Consisting of Gabriel "Gab" Tagadtad [1] on guitar and vocals, Chen Pangan [2] on guitar and vocals, Timothy Sison on drums, Ash Vanguardia on bass, and TeeJay Hollon on keyboard/synth. The band got their name from the condominium unit where the band started practicing as a group.[3]

History

Unit 406 is composed of members from different musical backgrounds. Band vocalist Gab, a successful songwriter for various Filipino artists, came to the Philippines after finishing school in Canada where his family resides to pursue a full-time career in music. His body of work consists of hits like “Unli” by BoybandPH and Inigo Pascual’s “Ikaw at Ako.” Chen, a music major, met Gab when she was still playing for a different band at the time. The two clicked musically and decided to collaborate. A common friend introduced him to eventual band members Ash and Tim.

TeeJay, a classical pianist at heart, wanted to play for a band. Members of the band met Tee during the 2017 UP Fair. Music site One Music PH, known for their digital concerts, discovered the band as part of the site’s “Be Discovered” program. [4]

In 2017, Gab's composition, entitled "Tanghaling Tapat," was chosen as one of the top ten songs for the songwriting competition Himig Handog 2017. The band was then chosen to interpret the song. The song was awarded as the fifth best song of the competition.[5]

The band released their debut self-titled EP on January 19, 2018 under their current label, One Music PH. The EP consists of five tracks, a mix of Filipino and English songs, composed by Gab. [6]

Influences

Members of the band were influenced by American rock bands such as Switchfoot, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Underoath, and My Chemical Romance. The band is also influenced by other Filipino bands like Sugarfree, Rivermaya, and Eraserheads.[7]
