Worldbruce thanks for your efforts thus far, this is a common misunderstanding, in that UWEO is not actually a branch or chapter of UWC. I have addressed this directly in the article (final sentence). Iamthekanadian (talk) 17:15, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
@Iamthekanadian: Thanks for the clarification (although the sources you cite in the final sentence don't support it at all). If UWEO is not part of the network of local United Ways for which UWC provides services, then a better merge/redirect target would be United Way. Or you could create a national level article with a descriptive title like United Ways in Canada and merge both this and United Way of Canada into it. The point is that Wikipedia will not publish a stand alone article about United Way East Ottawa. There are 1,800+ local United Ways; almost none are independently notable. That's the reason there are only a tiny handful of articles in Category:United Ways. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:29, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

United Way East Ontario is a Canadian charity based in Ottawa that was formed in 2017 when United Way Ottawa amalgamated with three smaller United Way organizations in Eastern Ontario: Prescott-Russell, Lanark County, and Renfrew County, serving a total population of 1.5 million.[1] The post-merger organization began operating under the name United Way East Ontario (UWEO) in 2019.[2]

UWEO engages in convening, fundraising, research, and advocacy activities in three focus areas related to children,[3] youth,[4] and marginalized citizens including seniors,[5] people with disabilities,[6] new Canadians,[7] and other groups identified through their granting programs.[8]

With the onset of COVID-19, UWEO altered its priorities to directly address issues related to the pandemic.[9] More than $2 million was spent in 39 programs through a partnership with 100 agencies.[10]

According to Charity Intelligence Canada, UWEO spends more than $9 million annually on programs and grants, and the $23 million in annual donor contributions qualifies the organization as "one of Canada's largest charities in terms of donations."[11] In 2020 Maclean's magazine named UWEO as one of the top 100 of Canada's more than 84,000 registered charities.[12] UWEO is fully independent of United Way of Canada, which is a smaller organization that assists with national campaigns and convening activities.[13][14]
